WVU Suspends Fraternity After 19 Members Charged With Underage Drinking

Logue Law Group

West Virginia University placed one of its fraternities on temporary suspension recently after 19 of its members were charged by Morgantown police for underage drinking and other violations, according to The Dominion Post.

Sigma Chi fraternity is not permitted to accept new pledges or host social events. In fact, the fraternity may not participate in any university functions – either on-campus or off-campus, the news agency reported.

The suspension stems from an incident on Nov. 6, in which Morgantown police were summoned to South Park. Police said there had been reports of a large crowd running through the streets – screaming and intoxicated – around 1:30 a.m., according to The Dominion Post. As a result, officers arrested three men for underage drinking. Citations were issued to 16 others. All 19 told police they were members of Tau Kappa Epsilon, the news agency reported. All students involved need an experienced lawyer to help them out. Not only are they facing criminal charges, but they likely will face student-conduct charges, as well.

A WVU alum myself, I handle many criminal cases both in Morgantown Municipal Court and Monongalia County Magistrate Court. Often, I represent students who are charged with traditional college crimes, such as underage drinking, disorderly conduct, obstructing an officer, battery of an officer, public intoxication, DUI, etc.

I am also experienced in representing students in their respective university conduct proceedings. Most recently, I have represented students from WVU and West Virginia Wesleyan, as well as schools in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Students do have due process rights that even include university judicial proceedings. I have also received many awards for my representation of those accused of crimes, among them are the Super Lawyer Rising Star and Top 40 Under 40 Trial Lawyer. If retained, I will fight for your rights and your standing at your school.

I had hired Mr. Logue a few years ago for my gf at the time for charges she had gotten before I had met her, for prostitution. Big mistake to date her and pay for her lawyer as we didn’t work out but Mr. Logue far exceeded expectations. He got nearly all charges in 2 separate cases dropped for her...

I was arrested on a felony 3 charge looking at at least up to 2 years in prison. County District Attorney didn't want to negotiate. After a lot of hard work, Sean was able to plead the case all the way down to just 90 days jail with a work release. Better deal than I realistically could have hoped...

Mr. Logue took our son’s cases on very short notice (the first lawyer we hired wasn’t getting anywhere with either of the prosecutors and had actually turned one of the cases over to the court-appointed attorney). We hired Mr. Logue to go to trial if needed, but he worked with both prosecutors and...
